THE CONFIRMATION OF THE PRESIDENT’S NOMINEE FOR THE POSITION OF DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE

On Thursday, October 7, 2021, a special meeting was convened at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in Kwame Danso to confirm the President’s choice for the job of Sene West District Chief Executive.

The Bono East Regional Minister, Hon. Kwasi Adu Gyan, the Regional Coordinating Director, George Padmore Mensah, Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Honorable Assembly Members, the District Coordinating Director, Staff of the Sene West District Assembly, the District’s Electoral Officer, and other interest groups were all in attendance at the meeting.

Hon. Thompson, the Presiding Member for Sene West District, who presided over the meeting, greeted and welcomed the assembly members from the district in his opening remarks. He then went on to publicly introduce and welcome the numerous dignitaries in attendance, paving the way for the meeting’s official start.

The Regional Minister, Hon. Kwasi Adu Gyan, thanked the members present for their unwavering support for him as the Bono East Regional Minister and praised them for the district’s continued progress. In his final remarks, he urged assembly members to vote to support the President’s choice for DCE so that he can continue his good work.

Mr. Jacob Gariba, the District Electoral Officer, explained the major goal of the gathering in his remarks. He took the time to explain how MMDCEs are elected, citing Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which states that “for each district, there shall be a District Chief Executive who shall be appointed by the President with the prior approval of not less than a two-third majority of members of the Assembly present and voting at the meeting.”

29 Assembly Members were expected to vote. Assembly members from the Drobe/Kofidjan and Konkonse/Gyasipo electoral areas recently passed away, reducing the numerical strength to 27. Following the poll, 27 ballots were sorted, with no ballots being spoiled. 23 out of the 27 Hon. Assembly Members voted “YES” and 4 voted “NO,” representing 85 percent and 15 percent respectively. As a result, the district electoral commissioner proclaimed the president’s candidate, Hon. John K Nyarba, to be validly confirmed as the District Chief Executive of the Sene West District Assembly for the second time.

In his remarks, the Hon. District Chief Executive thanked the assembly members for putting their faith in him to serve them for the next four years. He extended his gratitude to everyone in attendance and urged all stakeholders to give their fair share to the district’s growth.
