Sene West District Initiatives to Combat Poverty and Enhance Well-Being

The Sene West District is making significant progress in addressing multidimensional poverty, By implementing targeted recommendations and fostering collaboration among various departments, the district aims to develop a comprehensive strategy for eradicating poverty and enhancing residents’ well-being.

Education: The district will prioritise early childhood education by establishing high-quality preschool programs in underserved areas and offering need-based scholarships to disadvantaged students.

Health: Targeted public health campaigns will educate residents about vaccinations, while investments in midwifery training and healthcare facilities will enhance maternal and child health services.

Business Development : Business Advisory Centre is set to implement Skills Development Programs that will focus on high-demand job skills, informed by local unemployment data. These programs aim to equip residents with the necessary tools to secure stable employment and break the cycle of unemployment.

Planning and Resource Allocation: In a bid to ensure effective resource distribution, the district will adopt Data-Driven Decisions by utilizing deprivation data to guide investments in infrastructure. This approach prioritizes areas most affected by poverty, ensuring that resources are allocated where they are needed most. Additionally, Evidence-Based Policies will be developed through cross-department collaboration, targeting the root causes of poverty to facilitate meaningful reductions.

Environmental Health: The district is committed to enhancing living conditions through investments in Affordable Housing and Sanitation. By improving waste management and sanitation infrastructure, the district aims to promote public health and better living standards for its residents.

To further support these efforts, the district will launch Community Education programs focused on sanitation and hygiene. These initiatives will aim to foster healthier environments and reduce healthcare costs for low-income families, ultimately contributing to the overall well-being of the community.

Members present at the meeting included the District Coordinating Director, the District Statistician, the District Planning Officer, the Director for Education, the Director for Health, District Environmental Health Officer, a representative from the Business Advisory Center and a representative from the Social Welfare Department.
