The Sene West District Assembly has intensified efforts to improve sanitation across the district through the implementation of the Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) programme.
As part of the initiative, the Assembly engaged community leaders in various communities to drive awareness and support the successful rollout of the programme. The CLTS approach, adopted by the Government of Ghana, aims to encourage both rural and urban households to construct and use their own latrines, thereby promoting hygiene and eliminating open defecation.
To deepen understanding of the programme, a series of community forums were organized to educate residents on the importance of proper sanitation and the benefits of adopting household toilets. These engagements provided a platform for community members to actively participate, share concerns, and commit to improving sanitation practices within their localities.
The initiative highlights the Assembly’s commitment to fostering behavioural change and ensuring healthier living conditions for residents. By empowering communities to take ownership of sanitation, the programme is expected to contribute significantly to achieving open defecation-free status across the district.
