On 26 June 2024, the Sene West District Assembly organized a durbar at its forecourt to distribute support items and financial aid to qualified Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the district. The event, led by the Social Welfare Department, saw attendance from the Honorable District Chief Executive (DCE), the District Coordinating Director (DCD), and all heads of departments. The gathering underscored the district’s commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of persons with disabilities, empowering them through practical tools and support.
The durbar featured the distribution of a range of equipment and items tailored to meet the specific needs of PWDs within the community. Among the items presented were deep freezers, fufu-pounding machines, industrial sewing machines, and hand sewing machines, each selected to enable recipients to establish small businesses or enhance their productivity. Additionally, several beneficiaries received direct financial assistance for education and medical needs, addressing key barriers that often hinder PWDs from accessing essential services.
Honorable DCE, in his address, reaffirmed the Assembly’s dedication to supporting the PWD community, stating that this initiative is part of a broader commitment to inclusive development across the district. He highlighted the significance of providing the necessary tools to empower persons with disabilities, enabling them to contribute to their communities and attain greater independence.
The Social Welfare Department, which coordinated the distribution process, emphasized that the selection of beneficiaries and the support provided were carefully tailored to ensure that each recipient received the resources most beneficial to their unique circumstances. The department further encouraged recipients to utilize the support effectively and pledged to continue working with PWDs to improve their quality of life.
Beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation for the Assembly’s assistance, noting that the tools and financial aid would greatly enhance their ability to sustain livelihoods and improve their standard of living. Community leaders in attendance also commended the initiative, praising the Assembly for its ongoing efforts to address the specific needs of the district’s disabled population.
The durbar stands as a testament to the Sene West District Assembly’s commitment to promoting social inclusion and empowering marginalized groups through targeted support initiatives.
